I've always been very aware of DUI. I so rarely drive when I've been drinking, and if I am drinking, it's usually 2 drink max. You can't afford the fines, the time away from family/work and the other penalties.
Hawaii announced it had the highest DUI accidents in the USA. Combine that with highways that are for the most part single lanes with NO illumination (because of all the stuff on Mauna Kea), it's no wonder were #1.
Every day the local Island newspaper publishes every "crime" that resulted in an arrest. It includes the name of the offender, location, crime etc. It can be a whole page length. I'll have to post it on my journal. It is really amazing.
