Just Plain Weird

I'm so tempted to ask 'can you beat this one?'. 

Message on a chat channel I received from a complete stranger:

"Do you own or rent?"

Weird or what?

My question to you would be was that a completely one-off IM type thing, or was it part of an extended chat?

I'd be taken aback if it just came out of the blue from a complete stranger. Is there something in your bear411 profile that would lead someone to read it and just drop a random question like that?

Of course, it's no sin to rent. I wonder if I'd ever though the same thing to ask someone in my younger days on chat lines! ;-) Guys that rented apartments had much fewer conversational overlaps than ones that owned (or were buying) their own place.

That's the interesting aspect of this message... It was completely out of the blue from a total stranger with whom I'd never spoken (and will never speak). Nothing in my profile that would even suggest the own/rent question. I still wonder if the guy was attempting to use 'own/rent' as some sort of sexual shorthand and even that makes no sense!

I stay with my original conclusion... weird!
