Retail Therapy Theater Style
Mar. 27th, 2007 09:47 amOne of the disappointing aspects of life in San Diego is that shows, when they do circuit through, may offer only 3 or 4 performances before they move on. Seats as you'd guess disappear in an eye blink. And so I've purchased a subscription to the 2007-8 Broadway San Diego season. Included are:
Avenue Q - Seen the diet Vegas version, am looking forward to another shot at this Tony winner (although Wicked should have won in my opinion).
Camelot - Never seen the show on stage but know the score very well. Michael York is advertised as being a cast member. I wonder how his walker gets around the stage.
Jersey Boys - Apparently the 'big' show of this season, I've been listening to the CD for a couple of weeks. A juke box musical true, but it sounds like a good one.
The Rat Pack - Don't know anything about the show and am guessing it's all about Frank, Dean, Sammy, Joey, et al. A subscription 'filler' show? Maybe.
Rain - Apparently a circus based show (not to be confused with Cirque du Soleil, or maybe it is). More filler? I suspect so.
Jesus Christ Superstar - ALW rides again. One of the better Webers in my opinion. Never seen it on stage, know the score really well. Relatively tough singing roles. Ted Neeley is to appear in the show (the movie JC). I wonder if Michael York will loan Ted his walker. We shall see...
Phantom of the Opera - The quintessential ALW warhorse musical. Elaborate staging that sometimes overshadows some good music. Killer singing parts. I've seen the show, I think, 5 times (!). Can I handle one more?
Seems a bit lackluster, doesn't it? Ah well, I'm a theater addict and easily pleased.
