I'm considering joining the lemmings that are flocking to the new iPhone. While this investment (and at these prices, I'm investing, not buying) would merely add to preponderance of evidence that my sanity is long gone, I am considering the pro's and con's:
Pro
I can finally be like all the cool kids that have one
Being a long term AT&T customer with home telephone, VOIP, and DSL service, I'm entitled to some sort of token discount (the amount of which cannot be deciphered from AT&T's web pages)
When I travel (which I seem to be doing more and more frequently), I won't have to devote a piece of luggage to the various chargers, cables, and do-dads needed for my phone, iPod, work phone, etc. Or, at least, it'll be a smaller steamer trunk
I can finally have a consistent calendar and address book on my phone, home and work computers (my current cell phone is very limited on the data it can maintain)
It'll nicely scratch my incurable technogeek itch
I can assure myself of having electronics that will be obsolete in six months or less
Con
It costs a friggin mint
There's absolutely nothing wrong with my current cell phone
I never really wanted to be one of the cool kids
With some luck and a good night's sleep, the last vestiges of my reason will return to me and I'll forget this whole idea. Wanna bet?
