Palm Springs Pride 2007
Nov. 5th, 2007 11:33 amI lost my virginity this past weekend. Yes, I did. I attended my first Palm Springs Pride weekend.
Was it faboo beyond words? No, but it was decent. A small but tasteful festival with the usual mix (or so it seems) of commercial vendors, food stalls, and political and semi-political advocates. With my usual bad planning, I wandered the festival in the hottest part of the day, Noon to 3PM. Yes, I am stooopid.
I was slightly smarter on Sunday and found a spot that was somewhat shaded from which to view the parade. Using the typical gay clock, the 10AM parade start was more like 10:30AM. Again, the usual mix of marchers, floats, and politicos (gypsies, tramps, and thieves?). The parade was done by Noon and so was I. A stop at Koffi, the second in two days for some iced tea plasma, then lunch at Manhattan in the Desert (burp) and the relatively quick two hour drive home.
It's a Small World note - I was in the Springs for less than 2 hours and ran into six members of the square dance cult (2 Jims, 2 Bills, 1 Santo, and 1 Tony), none of whom are on LJ, the slugs. Then on Sunday while at the parade, I was accosted by an old friend from SF, Carlos, who'd moved to the Springs a few years ago and looked completely unchanged. I think I hate him.
So, a relatively quiet weekend, but a good one.
