Fiesta in Tucson
Jan. 19th, 2004 07:55 amAnother bear run, ho hum. Well, not entirely ho hum, to be honest. This is my third year at La Fiesta de Los Osos and it remains fun. Great for catching up with the Phoenix Posse (the four bitc..er...gentlemen that are special friends, including LJer
pugsly_phx) and a whole bunch of acquaintances that I've made over the years. My personal list of pros and cons:

Will I return next year? Not sure, I have a year to decide. I think I'm tiring of bear runs.

Pro
- Relaxed "leave your attitude at home" atmosphere
- Sonoran Desert Museum - Probably the best museum I've ever been to, largely because its not a museum in the dusty displays sense
- Very reasonable pricing - You get one heck of a lot for your money (transport to/from the hotel, meals, run gimme's, a Tshirt, a contest, hospitality suite, and on and on)
Con
- Consistently crappy meals (maybe that reasonable pricing should be a bit less reasonable). One wonders how the food compares to what you'd find in a Turkish prison.
- Tucson - Don't get me wrong, there are many wonderful aspects of the place but they aren't anywhere near the host hotel
- The "Un-Contest" - It's a brilliant concept to plan a contest that makes fun of all the big bear run Mr. Whatever Bear competitions. And the Bears of the Old Pueblo had a clever idea by giving each contestant $50 to buy their costumes at Home Depot. Why then wasn't the contest more fun? Dunno, it should have been.
Will I return next year? Not sure, I have a year to decide. I think I'm tiring of bear runs.
