Cruise Control
Mar. 15th, 2007 02:10 pmI'm considering taking my first ocean cruise (if the Gulf of Mexico can be considered 'ocean'). Specifically, Bear Voyage 2007 out of Fort Lauderdale. The cruise is a trifle longer than I'd like for a first time at 10 nights but the ship is nearly new and the cruise comes highly recommended by a few friends who've done it in the past.
At this point, I'm looking for comments, pro or con on cruises such as this one. Anyone?

Cell Phone Call
Mar. 15th, 2007 02:43 pmMy work cell phone rang a few minutes ago. Caller ID indicates "Blocked Caller" hinting that this was a wrong number.
I identify myself.
(5 seconds of dead air space in which I can hear shrill rug rats howling in the background)
Her: Um, can I, um, speak to Vanessa?
Me: I'm sorry, you have the wrong number. This is a business phone.
Her: Can I speak to Vanessa? (Whine in her voice moves up a step)
Me: You have the wrong number.
Her: Yeah, whatever.
(she hangs up)
2 minutes pass, cell phone rings again, caller ID generates a number this time...
I identify myself
Her: Um, can I speak to Vanessa?
Me: You have the wrong number again. Why don't you learn how to dial correctly?
(I hang up)
I have no doubt that this sort of interchange is hellishly common. It just demonstrates why people shouldn't be allowed to use technology they don't understand.
And if Vanessa reads this post, I have a message for you...
