Why is it that precisely one week before any major vacation I plan, I catch cold? Karma trying to maintain balance in the universe?

Somehow trying to be charming and sexy with a box of Kleenex under your arm doesn't work particularly well...

A couple of days ago, the ever handsome (and one year older) [livejournal.com profile] dr_scott posted regarding a Six Feet Under episode.  Featured is the singing of Nessum Dorma from Puccini's opera, Turandot.  As coincidence would have it, later that day, our local classical radio station commented about a You Tube clip of that same piece, which piqued my curiosity.  You Tube yielded this clip of a performance by Paul Potts on the British equivalent of American Idol.  Potts, a mobile phone salesman and an unknown, has a spectacular singing voice and was ultimately voted the winner of the competition.

Now I'm not a big fan of opera. But if this piece and performance don't make you take a deep breath, you have no soul!
