A couple of days ago, the ever handsome (and one year older)
dr_scott posted regarding a Six Feet Under episode. Featured is the singing of Nessum Dorma from Puccini's opera, Turandot. As coincidence would have it, later that day, our local classical radio station commented about a You Tube clip of that same piece, which piqued my curiosity. You Tube yielded this clip of a performance by Paul Potts on the British equivalent of American Idol. Potts, a mobile phone salesman and an unknown, has a spectacular singing voice and was ultimately voted the winner of the competition.
Now I'm not a big fan of opera. But if this piece and performance don't make you take a deep breath, you have no soul!

Date: 2007-07-20 03:30 pm (UTC)He trained for opera in Italy, taking time away from his paid job as a local politician! (The electorate were unamused, and he wasn't re-elected). He has sung in opera houses and showcase performances around Europe.
Somehow, the only biographic detail that made it to the reality show was that he is now a mobile phone salesman; and apparently he's spending the cash prize having his teeth fixed. Good call I'd say.
