Dancin' to Darren

Another month, another Saturday evening Finest City dance...
(For those who might care, FCS differs from the Bay Area club practice with which I'm more familiar as they hold monthly dances with 'smaller' callers rather than fewer events with bigger names. I don't know that one approach is better than another necessarily. I suppose I should feel fortunate to have danced to Anne Uebelacker, Mike DeSisto, etc. as often as I have in the past)
Darren Gallina handled the calling duties in fine style. Having danced to him on several prior occasions, I knew his technique to be clean with solid singing skills and rarely a caller generated crash. He didn't disappoint in any of these areas in a mixed bag of Plus and Advanced tips. For some dancers, myself included, Darren doesn't often offer much in the way of brain teaser moves. You rarely sweat in one of Darren's tips. With a majority of Advanced or better level dancers on Saturday, he could have dug a little deeper but didn't. "Does every singing call have Weave the Ring in it?" I got asked by a buddy who's fairly new to square dancing. "With Darren, it seems so, yes" was my response.
Turnout was surprisingly good with 4+ squares of dancers in attendance (half of that number is more common). Food was plentiful and there were even some folks down from LA clubs. Nice evening overall.
Two weeks to Stumptown.
And only six weeks to Convention. Yikes!
